When you put the forward controls on, did the 2 long bolts go through the holes in the mounting plates? If so, the original footpeg mount should go on before you reinstall the bolts. I don't remember any difficulty with the springs because they shoul attach int the same place as they did before. I haven't got any pictures, but I will try to take some Saturday and e-mail them to you if you haven't had any luck by then. Also, I had to remove the stock footpeg and gearshift lever from the stock unit before reinstalling it.
